Based on the definition of EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction), The engineering and construction contractor carries out the detailed engineering design of the project, procure all the equipment and materials necessary, and then construct to deliver a functioning facility or asset to their clients.
In executing each EPC project, the company assigns a Project Team to approach the given tasks. And in each team, one Project Manager leads the team in project schedule planning, design, procurement and contract administration, construction, progress reporting, commissioning and other tasks. The team consists of a Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, QC Engineer, Instrumentation Engineer and other supporting staff where applicable.
The first duty of the engineering group is to technically, economically, legally, and operationally investigate the feasibility of the assigned project. The second step is to study the process, preliminary piping and instrumental diagrams conceptually. Then, after specifying the control and safety devices, operational instructions are determined in order to be followed by the workers.
In the next step, the procurement group is expected to establish a well-planned strategy (including organization, schedules, and procedures) to the requirements which is followed by a technical evaluation of the vendors’ proposals. In addition to these demands, procurement is supposed to coordinate the site and planning engineers for the required materials.
Parallel to the plans of engineering group and following the procurement group, the construction group prepares the qualified construction contractors and evaluates their activities. After site supervising, pre-commissioning, and commissioning, the project is started up.
